1901 & 1911 Census Digitisation Project

The household returns for the 32 county censuses of Ireland of 1901 and 1911, which are in the custody of the National Archives of Ireland, represent an extremely valuable part of Irish heritage, and a resource for genealogists, local historians and scholars. The National Archives of Ireland, in partnership with Library and Archives Canada, are digitising and indexing these census records to develop their full potential by making them available on the Internet over a 3-4 year period.

This Ireland-Canada Documentary Heritage Research Partnership will create a website with the census records as the centre of a range of records, texts and pieces by historians and curators on life at the turn of the last century. This will be a new and very important educational resource in addition to being a wonderful tool for family historians who want to trace their ancestors. The address is www.census.nationalarchives.ie.
